Crazy catwalk fashion

Whether trawling the catwalks of Milan, New York, London, Tokyo or Paris, you can be sure to witness some of the most fashion forward trends, along with some of the most weird and wonderful creations.

Here, we celebrate some of the more wacky fashion designs on the catwalk this year:

MOSCHINO: TAKEAWAY CHIC

Can we get some fries with that shirt dress please? Jeremy Scott and Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele served up a slice of retro with their Autumn/Winter 2014 design at Milan fashion week this year, pleasing fans of 80s kitsch glamour. The wacky collection included witty happy meal handbags and Moschino/McDonalds hybrid caps, and went down a storm with the usually serious crowd who lapped up this stroke of tongue-in-cheek genius.

JUNYA WATANABE: A SPACE FASHION ODYSSEY

Nothing says futuristic like a sci-fi inspired design. Junya Watanabe was originally the protégé of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, and the Japanese designer sure made an impact with his unique brand of techno couture during Paris fashion week this year. The amalgamation of spherical shapes in the body combined with a huge orange space helmet is apparently going to be a staple for next summer.

ONITSUKA TIGER X ANDREA POMPILIO: DAFT PUNK WANT THEIR HELMET BACK

Apparently, sci-fi was a popular inspiration choice for designers this season, as the trend continued with this collection. Tokyo fashion week is renowned for pushing the boundaries, and this delightful team up between prolific shoe designer Onitsuka Tiger and Italian Andrea Pompilio proved a match made in outer space on the catwalk. It was a vision in monochrome, and combining black and white Converse with space man helmets was a strange, but utterly fantastic union.

SIBLING: FLOWER POWER

SIBLING embrace colour, humour and sparkle, and are really renowned for transforming chunky knitwear into something really extraordinary. The trio wowed audiences at London fashion week with this daring outfit that was truly a vision in red, making the model look like a ravishing flower in bloom, complete with a racy netted facemask and a gladiator-like hat.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD: FUNNY FASHION

This lady is one of the most famous faces in fashion since coming into prominence during the punk era, and this piece is surely a two-finger salute to mainstream fashion once again. This pot-bellied man showed what can only be described as a skin-tight onesie, which came complete with a matching bucket hat. He looked like a walking comic book strip, and it certainly added a touch of humour to the catwalk.

PAM HOGG: PUNK IS BACK

Pam Hogg is known for bringing a particularly unique style to the catwalk, and this year was no different at London Fashion week. Inspired by Russian political punks, the look was gender bending whilst embracing the onesie and incorporating bright metallics and magnificent bobble hats.

COMME DES GARCONS: ROSES ARE RED

Paris fashion week innovated throughout the season this year, and this look from Comme des Garcons didn’t fail to deliver the shock factor either. Each look in the collection looked like a slightly sinister flower, combining soft fabrics in a deep red colour.

NASIR MAZHAR: BELOW THE BELT

Suspenders have always been seen as a little risqué, and this ‘suspender belt’ from Lady Gaga favourite Nasir Mazhar really goes that extra mile. The ensemble as a whole kind of looks like it could have been a magnificent long black dress, but the mid section has been removed.

MOSCHINO: CARTOON COUTURE

Jeremy Scott is at it again with this peculiar creation. It’s every child’s dream to see their favourite cartoon character brought to life, and this creation definitely brought out the inner child for the audience. With a SpongeBob SquarePants crop top and matching hat, combined with a yellow and black polka dot scarf, this design is the cream of the crop when it comes to cartoon couture.
