Best celebrity designed Christmas cards

Plus, how much more Christmassy does it get than making your own unique Christmas card for your family and friends? It’ll always top the generic mass produced festive greetings.

Many celebrities seem to think so, whether for charity, for their families or for publicity (the name Kardashian springs to mind), every year we see more and more Christmas cards created by or starring celebrities. Below are a few of our favourites.

CONTOSTAVLOS CHRISTMAS

Singer and ex-X factor judge Tulisa, created a cartoony offering featuring Father Christmas and Rudolph before a large Christmas dinner spread. The pop star is obviously artistically talented all round. Plus, she clearly loves Christmas, which we can't fault!

MAGIC AND MERRY

Wizard, saviour of Middle Earth, super villain, knight and actor, Sir Ian McKellen created a hand-sketched Christmas card for charity. He sketched his character from Lord of the Rings, Gandalf, smoking a pipe and inside it reads, 'From Middle Earth, Season's greetings'.

WAKE UP TO CHRISTMAS

2012 Daybreak presenters, Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly, created a card featuring their sit-in presenters for Christmas, a snowman, looking suspiciously like Aled (any relation?) and Father Christmas, looking nothing like Lorraine Kelly (she's probably happy about that). Patriotic presents sit on the table before the two characters, a Welsh dragon for Aled and a Loch Ness statuette for Lorraine.

QI CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Stephen Fry hand crafted another charity card for Christmas. With a hand-drawn Christmas tree with shiny baubles, an equally shiny star and a silver ribbon on the cover and a festive message wishing 'season’s greetings, a very happy new year', Stephen's card is simple, but festive.

TAKE THAT CARD

Gary Barlow is apparently quite the visual artist as well as a musical one. His hand-made Christmas card sets a festive scene with a tree in the foreground, next to a windowsill topped with cards featuring drawings by his children. Out of the window a snowy city scene lays in the moonlight and the man himself, Father Christmas, flies across it all with soaring presents and eight tiny reindeer. It really is one of the best of the lot, well done, Gary!

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

Superstar singer, Sting whipped up a charity Christmas card auctioned for the Rainforest Foundation UK. A stripy Christmas tree with a big star and, in keeping with the rainforest theme, a toucan perched on one of the tree's boughs. Sounds like a pretty good decoration actually. (Unfortunately we couldn’t find an image of the card itself to show you, but Sting still deserves a mention here as he is a staunch supporter of such an important charity!)

DANCING SANTA

All girl pop-star group, the Saturdays released a Christmas card. This team effort features a break dancing Father Christmas wearing sunglasses, complete with disco ball, signed dance floor panels from all the girls and, of course, a resplendent Christmas tree.

PRESIDENTIAL POP-UP

We have a stately offering for our final favourite, a fancy dynamic card featuring a pop-up White House; not a white house, the White House. That's right, Barack Obama's family card went out to friends, family and other important people for Christmas 2013 with the message: 'As we gather around this season, may the warmth and joy of the holidays fill your home'. Also printed on the president's pop-up property are his two pooches, Sunny and Bo. The right mix of classy, dignified and fun, President Obama's card is one of our favourites.

If this bunch of celebrities can put together a fairly decent Christmas card them I think we all can too! We might have a go at that pop-up one for our families, I'm sure it’ll be great!
